Knitting a Sweater Is Like Building a House
Today we’re comparing knitting a sweater with building a house.
Not making a swatch is a little bit like having the blueprint of the house but deciding not to measure the wood before cutting it. The designer has already done all the work to make sure your garment will have an amazing fit - but skipping the swatch might leave you with something… not that amazing. You feeling me?
Why You Should Knit a Swatch
Knitting a gauge swatch is one of those things that might feel boring, but it’s actually what makes your project successful. It helps you understand your tension, the yarn, and how your finished sweater will behave.
My Tip for Keeping Track of Swatches
Since I’ve been knitting for many, many years, I know my gauge doesn’t change that much. So every time I make a swatch, I save it!
I usually go for the same yarns, and sometimes the gauge in a new pattern is the same as in an older project. And if I’ve saved the info. guess what? I’ve already made the swatch!
So keep those swatches, friends.
Make It Pretty
To organize my swatches, I use our Gauge Notes. It makes the process a bit prettier, and a lot more inspiring.
